How It Works

Everything you need to know about GridGather, from signing up to running a Region or Venue as a team across the Hypergrid.

All times on GridGather are shown in Grid Time (SLT), which is Pacific Time and the standard for OpenSimulator events.

What is GridGather?

GridGather is the social home of OpenSimulator and the Hypergrid. List the places you've built and the events you host, share what's happening, and find the party, wherever it is on the metaverse. DJs, venue owners, builders, explorers: everyone gathers here.

The Main Feed

Posts, pictures and shout-outs from across the Hypergrid, all on the front page

Regions

Give your sim its own public page, photo feed, likes and live visitor count

Venues

Clubs, stages and stores with an event calendar and an in-world Gate board

Events

Post and discover events across the entire Hypergrid

Collaborators

Run a Region or Venue as a team, and never share a password

The Beacon 🔆

Your notifications: likes, comments, invites, @mentions and reminders

GatherChat

Live chat with the whole community, right on the Main Feed

Friends & Following

Add friends, follow the builders and DJs you love, and see your friends on your profile

Private Messages

One-to-one conversations with text, links and photos, from the envelope next to the Beacon

Region or Venue?

A Region is a place to explore. A Venue is a place where things happen.

A Region is a whole sim on the Hypergrid: the land, the build, the scenery. List it so explorers can find it, like it, review it, and hop straight in. Regions get a public profile page, a photo feed built from your posts, live visitor counts from your GatherPoints, and can be Featured on the Main Feed.

A Venue is a spot where things happen: a club, a stage, a store, a theater. It often sits on a single parcel. List it so people can find your events. Venues carry your event calendar, show live attendance, and can run a Gate board that shows your upcoming events in-world, just like GateCrashers always has.

Which should I list?

Your situationList it as
I built a gorgeous scenic sim that people should exploreA Region
I run a dance club or music venueA Venue
I rent a parcel and host shows thereA Venue
I own a sim, and there's a club on one parcel of itBoth: the sim as a Region, the club as a Venue
I run a store or a mallA Venue (or a Region if the whole sim is the mall)
I offer free homes, a sandbox, or a roleplay simA Region
I'm a DJ or performer who plays at other people's venuesNeither: ask the Venue's owner to make you a Collaborator

Why we keep them separate

Someone browsing Regions wants beautiful places to explore, not a list of dance clubs. Someone checking tonight's events wants the party, not a landscape. Keeping the two lists apart keeps each one useful. When you own both, they work together.

Music venues are Venues

Even if your club fills a whole sim, list the club as a Venue so your events, your Gate board and your attendance all live in one place. If the sim itself is worth exploring, list it as a Region too.

Creating Your Account

1

Go to gridgather.net and click Sign Up Free

Registration is free and takes less than a minute.

2

Fill in your account details

Choose a display name, enter your email, and set a password (minimum 8 characters).

3

Neverworld Grid resident? Verify your avatar

In Account Settings, verify your NWG avatar once and you get the NWG plan: everything in Gold, free.

4

You're in!

Head to your Dashboard to list a Region or Venue, post an event, or say hi on the Main Feed.

Not an NWG resident yet? Sign up free now and verify later from Account Settings. Or join Neverworld Grid. It's free!

Your Profile

Your profile is your home on GridGather: your picture, banner, bio, and every post you make.

1

Click your name in the top bar → My Profile

Add a profile photo and a banner. Square photos work best for the avatar picture.

2

Tell people about yourself

Add a bio, a favourite quote, your interests and a website. All optional.

3

Post!

Posts you make on your profile appear there, and can be shared to the Main Feed.

No photo? GridGather draws a neon avatar ring in your plan's colour: cyan for Free, silver for Silver, gold for Gold, ice-blue for Diamond, emerald for NWG, orange for Moderators, and red for Admins.

The Main Feed

The Main Feed is GridGather's front page, where the whole Hypergrid shows what it's up to.

Where posts come from

You post on your profile or on a Region you own or help run. The post always stays where you made it.

Sharing to the Feed

Tick Share to Main Feed and the post also appears on the front page. That uses one of your monthly shares.

React & comment

React with emoji, comment, and reply. The person who posted gets a Beacon.

The Featured card

A gold card at the top shows Featured Regions. Silver, Gold, NWG and Diamond plans can feature Regions every 30 days.

🌐 360° snapshots

Press 360° when you post and add a 360 snapshot from your viewer (in Firestorm: Avatar → 360 Snapshot). Everyone can drag to look all the way around, zoom in, and go full screen.

Add a short description so people know where they're standing, and an optional thumbnail for the preview.

▶ YouTube videos

Paste a YouTube link into a post and it shows the video's thumbnail with a play button. Press play and it plays right there in the Feed.

The YouTube player only loads when someone presses play, in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode.

Photos can be JPG, PNG, GIF or WebP, up to 15 MB. A 360° snapshot needs the wide 2:1 shape your viewer saves it in.

Registering a Venue

Venues are for events: clubs, stages, stores and theaters. Register yours to post events, show live attendance, and run a Gate board.

1

Go to Dashboard → Add Venue

Click the + Add Venue button on your dashboard.

2

Upload a venue photo (required)

Widescreen (16:9) works best. PNG or JPG.

3

Enter your venue details

Venue name, grid, region name, and the HyperGrid hop address so visitors can teleport straight to you.

4

Click Register Venue

Your Venue goes live, and its Venue key appears on the Venue's dashboard page. You'll paste that key into your Gate board.

Registering a Region

A Region is your sim on the Hypergrid, and GridGather gives it a permanent public home that explorers can find, like and review, whether or not you ever host an event there.

1

Go to Dashboard → Add Region

Click the + Add Region button on your dashboard.

2

Upload a region photo (required)

A great landscape shot works perfectly. Widescreen (16:9) recommended.

3

Enter your region details

Region name, grid, category, rating, hop address, and a description of what makes it special.

4

Click Register Region

Your Region gets its own public page with a Region feed. Pictures you post there build its photo carousel automatically.

5

Add GatherPoints

On your Region's GatherPoints tab, add a GatherPoint and copy its key into a Gate board in-world. It reports your live visitor count, and its position becomes the landing spot for Hop links.

Got a Region with a club on it? List both, and post the club's events at the Venue. Each list stays tidy, and your Region's Gate board can still show everything happening on the sim.

Your Gate Board In-World

One free in-world board does both jobs. What it shows depends on the key you give it and two settings in its menu. Everything GateCrashers boards did still works.

🎵 At a Venue (club, stage, shop)

Paste your Venue key (a GatherPoint key works too). Set Count to Parcel and Display to Events.

The board shows Venue Events, your own upcoming shows, at the top, with GridGather's upcoming events across the Hypergrid below. Your head count powers Hottest Right Now.

🏝️ On a Region

Paste a GatherPoint key. Set Count to Region to count everyone on the sim.

Display: Regions shows the GridGather region list with touch-to-teleport. Display: Events shows events happening on your Region at the top, then the global feed.

SettingChoicesUse it for
CountRegion · Parcel · ProximityRegion = the whole sim. Parcel = just your parcel (best for venues). Proximity = everyone within a radius you pick.
DisplayEvents · RegionsEvents (default) = your events on top, then the global feed. Regions = the region list with touch-to-teleport.
TeleportMap · DirectMap (default) opens the world map at the destination and works everywhere. Direct teleports instantly on grids that allow it.
1

Get your free board

Pick one up at the NWG Welcome Region or the NW Marketplace on Neverworld Grid.

Hop to NWG Welcome Region
2

Rez it somewhere visible

Near the entrance works great. On a Region, the board's spot becomes the landing point for Hop links.

3

Touch it → Settings → Enter Key

Paste your key and submit. Only the owner sees Settings.

4

Pick Count, Display and Teleport

Use the table above. You can change them any time.

5

Watch it go online

The board shows ★ ONLINE and starts showing events.

Set the board to Exportable (Edit → General → Export) so visitors from other grids can use it too.

Updating Your Boards

Rez the GridGather Updater in the region where your boards are. It finds every GridGather board you own in that region and installs the newest script.

You must own the boards, and the Updater must be in the same region, so use one Updater per region. Boards older than v10 need the new script dropped in by hand once; after that, the Updater takes care of them.

Gather Event Broadcaster (GEB)

The Gather Event Broadcaster is a big in-world display showing upcoming events from across the Hypergrid, updated automatically.

Anyone can rez a GEB board. Touch it, go to Settings → Enter Key, and paste the Public GEB Key below.

🔑 Public GEB Key

Paste this into any GEB board to show every GridGather event:

9e6c5132eb1541ebbca7aec5b1ac2632

💎 Diamond: your grid first

Diamond members create private GEB keys from their Dashboard. A private key shows your grid's events at the top of the board, followed by the global feed. Private keys stop working if you leave Diamond.

Posting Events

1

Go to Dashboard → Post New Event

Or click + Create Event on your Venue page to fill in the venue details for you.

2

Upload your event flyer (required)

Every event needs a flyer. It's what catches the eye. Widescreen (16:9) recommended.

3

Fill in the details

Title, description, category (DJ Set, Live Music, Dance, Social, Roleplay and more).

4

Pick a Venue

Choose one of your Venues, or one you're a Collaborator on, and the location fills itself in. Or type a location by hand.

5

Set the date and time in SLT

All times are Grid Time (SLT, Pacific Time).

6

Click Publish Event

It goes live right away on the calendar, the Venue page and its Gate board.

Active events:your plan limits how many upcoming events you can have at once. Past events don't count, and a recurring event counts as one. Events posted at your Venues, including your Collaborators', use your plan. If you're at your limit, GridGather shows you how to upgrade.

Recurring Events

Every plan can make recurring events, so you never have to re-post your weekly show.

Repeat options:

Daily
Weekly
Every 2 Weeks
Monthly
A recurring event runs for 6 months. A week before it ends, your Beacon 🔆 offers a one-click Renew for 6 more. That keeps the calendar free of shows that stopped long ago.

Collaborators

Run it as a team. Never share a password again.

In virtual worlds, "just give me your password so I can post the flyer" is how accounts get lost, hijacked, or locked out. GridGather Collaborators end that for good.

Invite your DJ, your manager, your builder, or your best friend to your Region or Venue. They post under their own account, with their own name and face on every post, and you never hand over your login.

One role, no ranks. You are the Owner. Everyone you invite is a Collaborator, and every Collaborator can do the same things.

✅ What a Collaborator can do

On a Region: post to the Region's feed. Their photos join the Region's carousel.

On a Venue:post events, which show on the Venue page, its Gate board and the calendar. Those events use the Owner's event limit, not theirs.

Share to the Main Feed using the Owner's shares. A Free friend can promote your Region all month at no cost to themselves.

🔒 What stays yours

Your account, your password and your settings. Collaborators can't change your Region or Venue details, delete it, or touch your billing.

The final say. Remove any Collaborator post from your Region, and that also ends their collaboration. Collaborators can leave any time, too.

1

Open your Region or Venue → Collaborators tab

From your Dashboard.

2

Type their avatar name and pick them

They need a GridGather account, on any plan, Free included.

3

They accept from their Beacon 🔆

The invitation arrives in their Beacon with Accept and Decline buttons.

4

Done

Your Region or Venue now shows up for them whenever they post.

How many? (depends on the Owner's plan)

FreeNone
Silver1 per Region / Venue
Gold3 per Region / Venue
Diamond5 per Region / Venue
NWG3 per Region / Venue

Real examples

Sarah (Gold) owns Moonlit Bay and invites Harry(Free), who takes the photos. His sunset shots fill the Region's carousel and go out on the Main Feed using Sarah's shares.

Club Neon(Diamond) has five DJs. Each one posts their own sets to the club's calendar and Gate board, and nobody knows the owner's password.

The Beacon & GatherChat

🔆 The Beacon

Your notification bell, at the top of every page. It lights up when:

  • someone reacts to or comments on your post, or replies to your comment
  • someone likes your Region, or a Collaborator posts on it
  • you're invited to collaborate, or an invite is accepted or declined
  • someone sends you a friend request (with Accept and Decline), or accepts yours
  • someone @mentions you in GatherChat
  • a recurring event is about to end (with a Renew button)

Click a notification to jump straight to it. Similar ones are grouped, so twenty likes show as one line.

New private messages light up the envelope ✉️ next to the Beacon instead.

💬 GatherChat

The live chat in the right rail of the Main Feed (and the chat button on phones). Say hi, ask where the party is, share a hop.

Type @ and a name to mention someone, and they get a Beacon.

Moderators and Admins can delete messages and mute anyone who breaks the community rules.

Friends & Messages

🤝 Friends

Press Add Friendon anyone's profile. They get a Beacon with Accept and Decline, and once they accept you're friends both ways.

Your friends show as avatar cards on the Friends tab of your profile. Manage requests and your friends list from Friends in the menu under your name.

Don't want requests? Switch off Allow friend requests in Account Settings. Your friends stay friends.

⭐ Following

Press Followto keep up with someone without being friends: a DJ, a builder, a venue owner. It's one way, so they don't have to follow you back, and they can't turn it off.

✉️ Private messages

Press Message on a profile, or open the envelope next to the Beacon. Each person you talk to gets one conversation with your whole history together on one page.

Send text, links, and one photo per message. Only the two of you can see a conversation.

Anyone can message you unless you switch off Allow messages from anyone in Account Settings. Then only your friends, and people you've already been talking with, can start a message.

🚫 Blocking

On someone's profile, press ⋯ then Block User. They can't message you or send you a friend request, and any friendship or follow between you is removed.

They aren't told. Unblock anyone from your Block List in the menu under your name.

Deleting a conversation clears it from your side. Once both of you have deleted it, it's gone for good.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to share my password with my team?

No! Never. Make them Collaborators on your Region or Venue. They post with their own account, and you can remove them with one click.

What's the difference between a Region and a Venue?

A Region is a whole sim to explore: it gets a public page, a photo feed, likes and visitor counts. A Venue is a place where events happen, like a club, stage or store: it gets an event calendar and an in-world Gate board. See "Region or Venue?" at the top of this page.

Can I list the same place as both?

Yes, when it's both. List the sim as a Region so explorers find it, and list the club on it as a Venue so your events have a home.

Do I need a Gate board to post events?

No. You can post events by typing in the location. A Gate board adds live head counts and shows your events in-world.

What happens when a Collaborator posts an event?

It appears at your Venue with their name on it, and it uses your plan's event limit. Remove a Collaborator any time from the Venue's Collaborators tab.

How do recurring events work?

Pick Daily, Weekly, Every 2 Weeks or Monthly. The event runs for 6 months; a week before the end, your Beacon offers a one-click Renew.

What is SLT / Grid Time?

SLT is Pacific Time (US West Coast), the standard for OpenSimulator events. All times on GridGather are in SLT.

Can people from other grids use GridGather?

Absolutely. GridGather is for the whole Hypergrid. Anyone can register and list a Region, Venue or event, whatever grid they call home.

Can I upgrade or downgrade?

Yes. Pick a new plan on the Pricing page, and cancel the old one in PayPal. Moving down never deletes anything, but you can't add more until you're under the new plan's limits.

Can I stop strangers from messaging me?

Yes. In Account Settings, switch off "Allow messages from anyone" and only your friends can message you. To stop one person completely, open their profile, press ⋯ and choose Block User.

How do I post a 360° picture?

Take a 360 snapshot in your viewer (Firestorm: Avatar → 360 Snapshot, at the highest quality), then press 360° when you make a post and pick the image. Add a short description of where it was taken.

How long does ad approval take?

Usually within 24 hours, and your days start when the ad is approved. Check its status in My Ads.
